Analysis of the Relationship between Public Policies, Research, Responsible Innovation and Economic Growth in Burkina Faso
According to the Foresight Africa report of the Initiative for African Growth, 17 years after the commitment of African Union states to devote 1% of their GDP to research and development, continental financing stands at only 0.42%, below the global average of 1.7%. However, research and innovation, as part of a responsible approach, are catalysts for economic growth and sustainable development in vulnerable African countries, which face multiple local and global challenges. In this context, this study attempts to analyze the place of responsible research and innovation in public policies for economic growth and sustainable development in Burkina Faso, highlighting the role of universities in this process. The analysis reveals that, despite the large volume of discoveries from universities and research centers on various local issues each year, less than 1% are valued by public policies.
