Strategic Management of Organizational Tensions in Uncertain Environments: Challenges and Levers for Innovation
In a world marked by rapid change and unprecedented global challenges, organizations must reconcile often conflicting objectives: control and creativity, economic performance and social responsibility. Our research explores how these tensions, rather than being obstacles, can become powerful drivers of innovation. Using the framework of dynamic capabilities, we show how companies embed innovation into their strategies to turn constraints into opportunities. Our work is structured around three main areas: 1) managing tensions between control and creativity; 2) integrating organizational values as a source of innovation; and 3) leveraging CSR as a strategy to address global challenges while creating value. Based on multi-sector studies, our findings demonstrate that organizational tensions can spark creativity and strengthen resilience, calling for a rethinking of management frameworks in the face of major transitions.
