AI Integration and Skills Development in IT Organizations in Québec

We present findings from our research on the integration of AI in organizations and its impact on skill development practices, based on an online survey and focus group interviews. ChatGPT stands out as the most widely used AI tool, primarily for task automation and content generation. Some organizations also use more specialized tools or develop their own internal models. One of the main challenges identified is data protection, security, and confidentiality – especially the unintentional sharing of sensitive information, model training on internal data, and the management of access and permissions. Given the limited training offered by companies, employees often turn to self-directed learning, informal exchanges with colleagues, and external training opportunities. Additionally, logistical factors influence the choice of training format, depending on the availability of online or in-person options.
