The sports sector generates a wide range of market and non-market effects, positioning itself at the intersection of socio-economic, health, and environmental dimensions. These effects are recognized by public authorities who, in the name of the public interest, pursue a proactive sports policy. Moreover, given the sector’s specific characteristics and organizational structure, its future viability is challenged by the imperatives of decarbonization and adaptation. In this context, a holistic evaluation tool would represent a genuine societal innovation to support public decision-making. The aim of this presentation is to outline the various direct and indirect effects generated by the sports sector, along with the associated identification methodologies and potential innovations. This work is part of a doctoral thesis that seeks to model the sports sector systemically in order to compare and identify the most relevant measures to address the sector’s current and future challenges.
