Responsible governance of innovation and sustainability: The case of digital agriculture

Digitalisation of agriculture appears today to be as way to transform agricultural and food systems which benefits can be extended to society. However, it also raises a certain number of controversies and uncertainties which could call into question the paths of the sustainable transition in agriculture. In order to address the sustainability issues raised by the digitalisation of agriculture, we are interested in responsible governance of innovation. The research question is: what links exist between responsible innovation and sustainability? The case study of companies that develop and commercialize digital agricultural technologies has been investigated. The results highlighted different profiles integrating responsible innovation, corresponding to various specific conceptions of sustainability. The present study revealed some drivers for the implementation of responsible innovation governance in digital agriculture to support sustainable transition.
