The article analyzes whether the economics of the firm is, or can be, historically relevant. To answer this question, the well-known historical case of the Fisher Body-General Motors vertical integration is revisited. The opening of the archives related to this case gives a major opportunity to reconsider the case, and to propose new guidelines for a historically relevant theory of the firm.
