Working from Home, Salaried or Self-Employed: The Impact of New Information and Communications Technologies

As a result of past debates over the concept of legal subordination in France, working from home has long been considered the equivalent of wage earning. However, those that work from home, mostly women, endure relatively poor conditions when compared to other wage earners. The irregular nature of working from home and the lack of social contacts are further magnified by improvements in information and communications technology, especially as regards piecework.
