Dynamic Processes of Responsible Innovations

What are the major challenges facing the development of responsible innovation? These challenges stem mainly from the complexity of the concept and the difficulties involved in putting it into practice. To better grasp the importance of responsible innovation processes, we need to look back at its definition and the history of its extension, understand the associated managerial and political issues, and address the questions that this notion poses for research into the economics and management of innovation. Several key perspectives relating to the implementation of responsible innovation are discussed and illustrated in the contributions to this special issue, such as the multiplicity of players involved in the dynamics of responsible innovation processes, the diversity of innovation strategies, and the need for new forms of governance and conflict management.
